In my last blog post, I introduced Moz’s Page Authority and Domain Authority terms and promised to show you how to perform a simple SEO competitor analysis . And as promised, here it is.

To follow this article, you must first

What is a keyword’s competition?
This concept, in the context of Search Engine Optimization, refers to the difficulty of positioning a given keyword in the search results. And by positioning I mean that it appears “as high” as possible, ideally on the first page , because beyond that it is difficult for you to be found.

Who are your competitors?
Those pages that, intentionally or by chance , compete with yours. You will see that I say “or by chance”, because sometimes Google positions some websites because there is nothing better to show , even if they are not really optimized for the search in question.

Why is this analysis important?
Would you like to work for months positioning your Keywords without getting any results ? This is what can happen if you start optimizing your pages for Keywords that turn out to be very difficult to position, due to excessive competition .

Is it complicated?

Download the Moz Toolbar
Before you continue, you should download the free Moz Toolbar, which will help you check the Page Authority and Domain Authority of your potential competitors. The process is simple, and if you have already installed any other extensions for your browsers, you will have no problems.

Simply download the appropriate version for your browser: Chrome or Firefox . Once installed, you will see a new “ M ” shaped icon that, when clicked, displays this bar:
